The energy production potential of a feedstock depends on variables such as contaminant mixture, gas flow, pollution load, level of processing, and application.

DMT provides customers with the best solution based on these variables, in addition to capital expenditure (CAPEX) goals, operational expense (OPEX) targets or total cost of ownership (TCO) objectives.

Agriculture & Livestock

Agriculture includes livestock manure and crop residues. There are a wide range of animal wastes that can be used as a biogas source—the most common being dairy, hog and poultry manure. Crop residues can include stalks, straw, and plant trimmings. Enormous quantities of both are produced and wasted annually worldwide. DMT can help.

Wastewater Treatment

Many wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs), or water resource recovery facilities (WRRF), already have on-site anaerobic digesters (AD). Because the primary purpose of ADs at WWTPs is to treat wastewater solids, these digesters are subject to EPA biosolid regulations and differ in various ways. DMT’s technologies and expertise have proven beneficial for these facilities.

Source Separated Organics

Source Separated Organics (SSO) includes food waste, yard and landscaping debris, wood waste and paper fibers. Unfortunately, both the U.S. and Canada waste +30% of their total food supply. If properly diverted, the energy potential is significant as 100 tons of food waste per day can generate enough energy to power 800 to 1,400 homes each year.

Landfills

Landfills make up 20% of human-related methane emissions in both the U.S. and Canada. Landfills also contain the same anaerobic bacteria present in a digester to produce biogas, or landfill gas (LFG). Instead of having LFG escape into the atmosphere, LFG can be captured, converted, and upgraded to renewable natural gas (RNG) using DMT’s fully integrated system.

Industrial Waste

Industrial and commercial waste includes organic residue from food, beverage or feed production as well as liquid waste and sludge from industrial processes. This feedstock often has a high biogas yield and is very attractive for anaerobic digestion. Depending on packaging and impurity, a higher effort on unpacking and preparation may be necessary.

Oil & Gas

In the oil & gas industry, operators will often vent or flare the gas. While the limits of flaring vary from state to state, increased restrictions opens the market to technologies, such as the Sulfurex®, to condition and treat the natural gas created during crude oil and natural gas explorations. DMT offers a diverse range of desulfurization technologies for H₂S removal.
