Flare or Stranded Gas

Sulfurex® for Oil & Gas Industry

In the oil & gas industry, operators will often vent or flare the gas. While the limits of flaring vary from state to state, increased restrictions opens the market to technologies, such as the Sulfurex®, to condition and treat the natural gas created during crude oil and natural gas explorations. DMT offers a diverse range of desulfurization technologies for H₂S removal.

  • Large range of H₂S removal technologies available.
  • Safety compliance focused.
  • Durable and robust system for tough site conditions.

Venting and Flaring Natural Gas

In the oil and gas industry, natural gas is produced as a byproduct of oil extraction. Operators will often vent or flare this gas. Venting is the direct release of natural gas into the atmosphere. Natural gas flaring is the controlled combustion of volatile hydrocarbons.

While flaring is more common than venting, both of these activities routinely occur during oil and natural gas development as part of drilling, production, gathering, processing, and transportation operations. The reasons behind both flaring and venting are related to safety, economics, operational expediency, or a combination of all three.

Venting and Flaring Regulations

In the U.S., there are federal and individual state regulations to control the amount of flaring and venting. Recently, flaring has become more of an issue with the rapid development of unconventional, tight oil and gas resources over the past two decades, beginning with shale gas.

Additionally, every oil and gas producing state has regulations in place to limit and restrict flaring. While there is no national standard and flaring limits vary from state to state, increased restrictions opens the market to technologies, such as the Sulfurex®, to condition and treat the natural gas created during crude oil and natural gas explorations.

H2S mitigation technologies for this industry are not mutually exclusive and a combination of techniques can be used. We offer a wide range of desulfurization technologies.
